Secto Design is a Finnish family-owned company specialising in wooden design lamps. Each luminaire is carefully handmade at the company’s factory in Heinola, Finland, where locally sourced, certified birch is combined with sustainable production methods. The considered design and gentle, harmonious light, together with the natural warmth of the wood, create an inviting atmosphere in both private and public interiors. With their timeless Scandinavian aesthetic, Secto Design lamps are made to complement any space and to last for generations.

The Essence of Finland by Secto Design with Conran and Partners
The Essence of Finland invites HIX visitors into a moment of calm contemplation – a space where architectural thinking meets the quiet spirit of Nordic design. Conceived by Conran and Partners in collaboration with Secto Design, the installation translates the Finnish lighting brand’s philosophy into a sculptural, spatial experience.
Conran and Partners has long championed a holistic approach that considers not only aesthetics but also the impact design has on wellbeing and the environment. For this project, Amy Blight, Senior Designer at the practice, drew inspiration from her first visit to Finland, where Secto Design’s commitment to sustainable materials, architectural precision and responsible manufacturing left a lasting impression.
Designed by Blight and her team, and realised by the craftspeople at Secto Design and Finnish collaborators, the installation takes the form of a triptych. Each piece interprets a facet of Finnish nature and Secto Design’s DNA: Forest & Materiality, Lakes & Reflection and Light & Contrast. “There was a profound sense of calm in how light interacts with space in Finland,” Blight reflects. “The experience stayed with me — the honesty of the materials, the clarity of the design language, and the connection between the environment and form.”

First unveiled earlier this year in the windows of Conran and Partners’ Great Sutton Street studio, the piece now finds new life within the HIX context: distilled, architectural and quietly resonant.
“The calm rhythm of light and shadow that defines Secto Design’s lamps stems from the very essence of northern nature – just as their main material, responsibly sourced birch wood, does,” says Tuula Jusélius, Founder and Creative Director of Secto Design. “It’s impressive to see how deeply that sensibility resonated with the Conran and Partners creative team, and how intuitively they translated it into their own creative language.”
